Welcome

Parkview Dr. Michele Helfgott's Integrative Medicine practice includes evaluation and treatment to find and address the true causes of the patient's health issues including hormonal issues related to thyroid, metabolic syndrome and bio-identical hormone replacement. She has a special interest in the factors that could be contributing to the patient's poor health or illness: the individual's biochemistry, physiology, diet, exercise, environmental effects, stress, the amount of sleep the person gets, and inflammatory responses that occur in the body affecting the genes and brain chemicals.

Believing that integrative approaches are necessary to prevent and fight illness and disease, Dr. Helfgott places an emphasis on educating her patient on how to take control of his or her health. Patient education is as important as treating the body as a whole and looking for the common thread that leads to numerous degenerative processes.

Dr. Helfgott has a passion for patient care and understands diet and nutrition play a huge role in a person's overall health. She is a strong believer they are the cornerstone in preventing, fighting and resisting illness and disease. "We believe that disease starts in the intestine, and if your intestine isn't healthy then nothing else is going to work or be healthy."

A graduate of the Chicago Medical School, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science, Dr. Michele Helfgott is board certified OB/GYN with a fellowship in Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.

The desire to help her patients beyond OB/GYN related symptoms led Dr. Helfgott to include integrative medicine approaches in her medical practice. In 2012, she chose to practice Integrative Medicine full time and joined Dr. Angela LaSalle at the Parkview Integrative Medicine clinic on the Parkview Regional Medical Center north campus. A well-known advocate for women's health, Dr. Helfgott served as Medical Advisor for the Parkview Women's Health Center, a Program Mentor for Indiana University-Purdue University (IPFW) summer program, a guest lecturer, writer on health care for magazines, and appears on local television shows focusing on health topics.

Integrative Medicine

Parkview Physicians Group Integrative Medicine is a clinical division of Parkview Physicians Group (PPG) with a focus and reputation in world-class patient care, a multidisciplinary physician medical team, state-of-the-art laboratory assessment, and genetic testing to develop individualized preventative health plans. Integrative Medicine is a holistic perspective of medical care for patients with an emphasis on the individual, not simply the disease - and on prevention, not just treatment.

An excellent support staff of nurse practitioners, counselors, nutritionists and exercise physiologists provides education and counseling for patients and their families. The patient receives individualized recommendations with educational and behavioral support to accomplish necessary lifestyle changes and increase understanding and compliance of treatment.

The clinic provides individualized therapies pulling from traditional medicine, alternative therapies, targeted supplementation, medical nutrition, exercise, stress management and mind body techniques. It builds educational partnerships with ADHD, autism spectrum, cancer prevention, diabetes, thyroid, cardiovascular disease, and other related agencies and organizations. Integrative Medicine fosters research and development of treatment strategies, pharmaceutical and nutritional products, to treat underlying biochemical and nutrient deficiencies. With the growth and maturing of nutrigenomics, we see a trend where the term nutrigenomics will become accepted by patients and the medical scientific community and will eventually change eating habits and perhaps whole lives.
